Job Description

Basic Function:

  • Directs and participates in geological activities in assigned fields, monitors the interpretation of all available geological data in order to improve the geological models of potential reservoirs.
  • Initiates and follows up closely on all geology related studies in reservoirs carried out by consultants or shareholders in assigned field/concession area.
  • Acts as a source of guidance to Development Geology Specialist Protégés.
  • Assists in integrating geological study findings with other studies undertaken by the assigned team.
  • Provides advice to other team members on reservoir geology aspects of the study

Duties

Technical Standards and Industry Best Practices

  • Keep abreast of new/current development in reservoir geology. Includes attending and representing the Company in conferences, symposia, society meetings and relating functions to identify new/current development of interest to Company. Prepares reports/papers on such functions and circulates to other parties concerned.
  • Develop discipline standards to describe the role of Development Geology, engagement with other disciplines, key workflows, tools, and expectations.
  • Ensure the overall receipt, calibration, plotting tabulation of data and updating files of database, used in reservoir geology studies meet the Company minimum standards. Includes establishing new tests as appropriate, establishing priorities and schedules for calibration, computer manipulation and plotting of received data. Ensures computer databases, well-files and related project files are updated and that appropriate copies, indexing and storage of data is carried on time.
  • Maintain contact with suppliers of geological software, staying up-to-date with the latest software developments and new technologies which are of potential value to the Division and to attend conferences, seminars and to review technical periodically.

Technical Support and Technical Assurance

  • Review the preparation of geological inputs and geological predictions of appraisal and development wells as required. Includes reviewing and evaluating drilling and test results.
  • Evaluate interpretations in studies conducted by OPCOs, SPC companies, contractors and other third parties in OPCO joint ventures, on behalf of Company.
  • Develop, direct and/or participate in geological reservoir studies aimed at constructing and/or improving geological models. Includes Hydrocarbon in place volumes, uncertainties and range of reserves. Coordinate and defines coring, logging and testing requirements.
  • Develop briefing notes and presentations on asset peer reviews, EDP activities, and topics related to the subject matter as requested by the EDP Directorate.

Knowledge Sharing

  • Actively participate in relevant disciplinary and functional technical networks.
  • Sponsor and conduct technical workshops related to the subject matter to disseminate best practices and knowledge across the Group.

People and Talent Development

  • Directs Development Geology Specialist Protégés to conduct complex studies as required. Includes providing oversight and technical coaching in the process of work studies, such as advising on appropriate data, input and analyses of results.
  • Participate with the Technical Capability advisor in the ongoing training and development of UAE national employees as assigned. Includes assessing employee training and development needs, preparing structured familiarization, programs, monitoring progress and counseling employees as required. Prepare periodic progress reports on protégé development progress as agreed with the Technical Capability advisor.

Skills and Competencies

  • Expert knowledge concerning industry best practices for collecting, analyzing and interpreting data.
  • Experience collecting and analyzing rock samples, including developing core descriptions and lab analyses, and relating to outcrop/bedrock and near-surface deposits.
  • Experienced at corroborating geologic interpretations to electric line logging results.
  • Familiar with e-line logging procedures and petro physical interpretations.
  • Familiar with specialist computer applications.
  • Experience successfully working with construction engineers, consultants, contractors and geotechnical engineers.
  • Worked in multi-disciplinary project teams to assess evaluate reservoir data to understand behaviors, identify integrated solutions to problems, and participated in interrogation of static and dynamic models.
  • Experience in accessing, using and analyzing site information (such as radar images, aerial photographs, reports and geological maps) prior to site investigations.
  • Extensive knowledge of site visits and value brought to studies.
  • Able to plan, organize and undertake field work/site investigations.
  • Able to provide advice and information on a range of issues including for example proposed use, subsidence and construction materials.
  • Able to set objectives and manage projects accordingly.
  • History of successfully managing projects keeping to budgets and timescales

Other Related Duties

  • Knows the Company health, safety and environment policy, procedures, regulations and objectives as they relate to his area of responsibility. Ensures that work under his control is performed in a safe and environmentally sound manner. Conducts effective accident investigation and follow up. Implements specific safety management system program activities assigned to him.
  • Knows and follows the company's Code of Conduct.
  • To recommend to the department Manager the acquisition of new software and hardware related to completion design. To participate in the preparation of justifications for these acquisitions.
  • To carry out the delegated task of representing Company at technical meetings with OPCO's, OPCO shareholders, SPC companies, contractors, vendors, universities,  Petroleum Institute and other third parties on subjects concerning all Company reservoirs and comment on the reservoir engineering projects carried out by them.
  • To take action on any ad-hoc tasks and projects such as data requests from Universities or other third parties, training requests from UAE University, EDP GIS data base, etc.

 

Work Contracts:

  • Have daily interactions with staff within the department and division regarding project execution.
  • Has a frequent contact with OPCO & SPC companies Team Leaders, and ISH on joint studies or reservoirs projects carried out by the OPCOs or SPC companies
  • Has occasional contacts with consultants and contractors on projects carried out for Company, one of the OPCOs or SPC companies and with vendors on geological modeling software and hardware issues

Minimum Requirements:

  • EXPERT  
  • Over 20 years’ Experience – Chartered
  • Known as an expert in this area both inside the company and outside via external peers. Can provide guidance, troubleshoot and answer questions related to this area of expertise and the field where the skill is used.
  • Expert level technical skills with ability to lead advanced technical projects and has carbonate experience.
  • Focus is strategic;
  • Has demonstrated consistent excellence in applying this competency across multiple projects and/or organizations;
  • Considered the "go to" person in this area within own company and/or outside organizations;
  • Creates new applications for and/or lead the development of reference and resource materials for this competency;
  • Able to diagram or explain the relevant process elements and issues in relation to organizational issues and trends in sufficient detail during discussions and presentations, to foster a greater understanding among internal and external colleagues and constituents.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Published multiple papers including first Author publications in journals or conference proceedings; preferably peer reviewed is called upon to review and approve Journal papers and is invited to participate in special society publications.
