Job Description

Basic Function:

Teaches one or more of the Company Technical Institute English: 1anguage courses to students in the Basic, Foundation and I or Technical programs. Uses variety of resources in order to develop schemes of work and lesson plans that foster a healthy learning culture in the classroom and generate the most effective interactions with students.

Work Performed:

  • Prepares daily lesson plans and delivers lessons to a range of classes. Uses a variety of resource in order to develop schemes of work and lesson plans that foster a healthy learning culture in the classroom and generate the most effective interactions with students.
  • Selects and uses effective instructional methods and learning materials.
  • Takes part in producing and implementing a variety of tests and assessment tools.
  • Marks students' work gives appropriate feedback and maintains records of students' progress and development. Uploads records of students' grades on LMS (Learning Management System) 'and keeps backup copies of these grades.
  • Establishes and maintains a cooperative relationship with all students, fellow instructors, direct supervisors, and administrative personnel.
  • Supports students on an individual basis through academic or personal difficulties. Manages students' behavior in {he classroom and on Company premises and applies appropriate and effective measures in cases of misbehavior.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Participates in departmental and whole-institute meetings.
  • Conducts regular peer observations and participates in regular in-service training as part of continuing professional development,
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, and coordinating with other colleagues.
  • Reports any problems, challenges, malfunctions or HSE hazards to the Senior Instructor.
  • Performs other professional duties as asslqned.by Senior Instructor as required.
  • Performs occasional weekend duties to assist in the administration of test? (E.g. Cambridge Language Tests, Institutional Entry Test, etc.).
  • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Organizes and participates in extracurricular activities, such as ATI sports day/national day celebrations.
  • Collaborates with fellow instructors and other stakeholders in order to enhance the learning and teaching environment.

Professional Development:

  • Applies approved ATI professional standards for English language instructors.
  • Prepares an individual professional development plan ·in coordination with the concerned Senior Instructor, English Language.
  • Participates in professional development programs in ATI and attends local conferences, in coordination with the Senior Instructor.

Work Contracts:

  • Daily contacts with students
  • Daily contacts with fellow instructors, and Senior Instructor, English Language, to exchange ideas relating to good practice and effective teaching.
  • Occasional contacts with counsellors in respect of students; behavior attitude and academic performance.

Independence of Operation:

  • Reports to the Manager, Technical Studies Section, but receives work direction from the concerned Sr. Instructor Engineering, English Language.
  • Works according to established technical instructional methods, professional standards and practices.
  • Completed work is subject to review by the Senior Instructor, English Language and the Manager, Academic Studies Section.

 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None

 

Physical Effort:

  • Some physical effort, standing up in class four/five hours per day.
  • Exposed to eye-strain due to computer use, far about 30% of the working time.

Skills

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in English Language or Equivalent Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speaker of Other Language (TESOL) or the equivalent in a relevant subject area.
  • Five (5) years of experience in teaching English as a second language.
  • Advanced computer skills (especially using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and familiarity with Learning Management System (LMS) and Student Information System (SIS)
  • Native or near-native proficiency of the English Langauage.
